Dr. Stathis Avramidis receives the
RLSS Diploma Award at the Greek Lifesaving Cup
Glyfada, Greece 26.09.2021. The RLSS Commonwealth Vice President Mr. John Long presents to Dr. Stathis Avramidis the RLSS Diploma Award for the creation of the International Water Safety Program “Charlie the savior”.
The presentation took place at the illustrious opening ceremony of the Greek Lifesaving Cup 2021 that was organized by the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association (GLSA). The event was attended by about 250 athletes and guests of 5 nations (Greece, Cyprus, UK, USA and Haiti). It was a historical event because it coincided with the national celebration of 200 years of Greek Independence.
The International Water Safety Program “Charlie the savior” has been endorsed by 6 international organizations that operate in over 120 countries (International Life Saving Federation, International Swimming Hall of Fame, International Federation of Swimming Teachers’ Association, World Open Water Swimming Association, Royal Life Saving Society Commonwealth, A Chance For Children Foundation) and approved by the Hellenic Ministry of Education. It is inspired by true events that took place during the filming of the world’s #1 TV series “Baywatch”.
John Long, Knight in the Order of Lifesaving of the International Life Saving Federation and Vice President of the Royal Life Saving Society Commonwealth, presented to the GLSA President, Dr. Stathis Avramidis, one of the oldest and the highest social award for his contributions to the advancement of lifesaving, through the creation of this program.
Long commented: “Charlie the savior, for which Dr. Stathis Avramidis is today honored with the prestigious RLSS Diploma Award, has already been taught to 10,000 children only in Greece. On behalf of Prince Michael of Kent, the RLSS Commonwealth President, I present to you this award.”
Dr. Avramidis said: “I am honored to receive this award. I thank the legendary creator of Baywatch, Greg Bonann who trusted me to make a good use of his life, the 6 international organizations that endorsed it, the RLSS Commonwealth, its Patron Queen Elizabeth and its President Prince Michael of Kent.”
