Lifesaving heroes” is a chapter authored by Dr. Stathis Avramidis. Lifesaving heroes are those who take the risk to save people from drowning under various extreme situations. Lifesaving is a gold mine for heroism science. The chapter presents remarkable stories of people who saved lives in the water.

Upon the news of this publication, Dr. Avramidis commented: “I am pleased for being invited to shed light on the neglected issue of lifesaving heroes to this wonderful and meaningful encyclopedia. Drowning is one of the most serious killers worldwide and the inclusion of this chapter to such a collective scholarly work can help the society understand better the phenomenon.”

Dr. Stathis Avramidis is a President of the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association, a Board Member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame, the Secretary General of the Mediterranean Lifesaving Confederation, a Teacher of Applied Lifeguarding & Lifesaving Sport at Athens University, a Business Commission Member of the International Life Saving Federation and Officer of the National Public Health Organization.
