The GLSA Citation
of Honor to Dr Emily Francis
Athens 25.10.2024. The Greek Lifesaving Sports Association awarded Dr. Emily Dawn Francis with the Citation of Honor for her contributions to lifesaving. The modest ceremony took place during a lesson of the module “Lifesaving Sport” at the School of Sport Science and Physical Education in the University of Athens. Dr Francis is the Chair of the Drowning Prevention Research Centre Canada's sub-committee. She had the opportunity to speak about her dissertation “A Drowning Prevention Policy Framework” and thesis "ʈiič-mɑɫ-ɴi: sharing drowning prevention with Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations", that she undertook under the supervision of the legendary former ILS President, Dr Steve Beerman and Dr. Milton McClaren at Royal Roads University. She also spoke about her lifeguard experiences and trained with the Greek students. Dr Francis has been honored several times for the contributions to water safety.
