signed a Memorandum of
Understanding for drowning prevention
February 19, 2020. The Greek Lifesaving Sports
Association (GLSA) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Make the
Minute Matter (M3) to enhance water safety and lifesaving sport.
Learning should be fun, lifelong and for all.
Especially when it is about the preservation of public health from injuries. Lifesaving
sport is the only sport that teaches you how to save a life in and out of the
water.
By constitution, M3 aims to empower communities and build programs that change lives and save lives.
It focuses on raising awareness about drowning, educating people about water
safety, and funding skills-based training programs that prevent drowning.
By constitution, GLSA aims to bridge public health
with sports for injury prevention. It accomplishes its goals through
partnerships with several organizations and by implementing seminars,
conferences, congresses, audiovisual material, competitions, training and
publications on water safety and lifesaving sport.
The two organizations agreed to collaborate in
enhancing commonly agreed water safety and lifesaving sport activities that
will allow the decrease of aquatic related injuries. GLSA is based in Greece
and M3 in the USA.
"Rebecca has been a driving force the last years.
She has an amazing ability to connect fine people and organizations. GLSA is
pleased to be associated with Make the Minute Matter", said Dr. Stathis
Avramidis, GLSA President, "father" of Greek lifesaving sport and
Academic Fellow of Applied Lifeguarding and Lifesaving Sport in the University
of Athens.
"GLSA was formed to fill in a gap in Greece. The country has a high drowning rate and surely there is a need for more partnerships and initiatives. I am pleased to see that GLSA has decided to play a role in injury prevention, implementing several activities. I am honored to be associated with their work", M3 President Robinson said.
GLSA is composed by prestigious personalities (academics, scholars), numerous volunteers, honorary members (world recognized authorities), supporters (Olympic and world winners). To achieve its two aims, GLSA will collaborate with numerous international water safety, swimming and lifesaving sport organizations.
