Lifeguarding and Lifesaving
sport at Athens University
Athens 24.03.2023. Thirty four Athens University students were water safety and lifesaving sport techniques.
Several organizations contributed for the successful outcome of the teaching. The attendees, are enrolled in the module “Applied Lifeguarding” that is offered by the School of Sport Science and Physical Education of Athens University. The teaching was freely offered, by the President of the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association (GLSA), Dr. Stathis Avramidis, as part of the project “Safe Greece” that is supported by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, the International Swimming Hall of Fame’s program “Every Child A Swimmer” and the “Lifesaving Network” that is co-funded by the European Union.
The GLSA, is a non-profit organization that was founded in memory of 3 relatives that lost their lives at sea. It is a member of the International Life Saving Federation, the International Life Saving Federation of Europe, the Mediterranean Lifesaving Confederation, partner of the Lifesaving Network, and ally of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
