Salutation by the International Federation

of Swimming Teachers’ Association

The International Federation of Swimming Teachers’ Association strives to reduce drowning through swimming education. Drowning is a multi-dimensional problem that requires collaboration and innovation. Sports have the ability to mold our lives. Swimming has the ability to protect our lives. Lifesaving sport is a means to motivate us to save other people’s lives. I congratulate Stathis, the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association, the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the contributing organizations and all of the participating experts. Unfortunately my professional duties do not allow me to participate in this historic event. However, having served as a volunteer protection manager for the 2002 Olympic Games, I have a unique understanding of the scope of the Olympic world stage and the impact on lifesaving and drowning prevention this may have. The International Federation of Swimming Teachers’ Association proudly endorses the International Symposium on Lifesaving as Olympic Sport. All good wishes for this fine symposium in the homeland of the Olympic Games.
