Greece 09.09.2023. The Greek Lifesaving Sports Association proudly announces the induction of Georgia Fyrigou - Consolo (Greece) as an Honorary Member.

Georgia Fyrigou - Consolo said about her induction: "I am honored to be inducted as a GLSA Honorary Member and be included in a list with other accomplished prestigious personalities from all over the world. The Greek Lifesaving Sports Association is currently the power-house of lifesaving sport in Greece, saving lives from drowning and aquatic related fatalities through water safety and recreational sporting activities. You have worked passionately for decades to give birth, resurrect and popularize the sport that saves lives in our country. Greece and the aquatics environment owes a lot to Avramidis family because with their energy and actions it functioned and continues to serve as a beacon of training and contribution to the life-saving movement, saving lives and educating scientists. GLSA has earned reputation and respect from many national and international organizations. Thank you for this honor and I promise to do my best in every possible way to promote your humanitarian and sports activities."




For 35 years, Georgia has been involved in the Olympic Sport of Diving and sport at national and international level. She holds bachelor degrees in Finance and Physical Education and 3 master degrees in Sports Organizations and Management, Tourism and Intercultural Communication, Governance and Public Policies. She is a certified as A Category Diving Coach by the Ministry of Education and Sports.



She was the Chairman of the Technical Diving Committee in Europe (LEN 2005-2018), Secretary General of the Technical Diving Committee of World Aquatics (FINA 2009-2018) and the Chair for Diving (COMEN, 2012-). She served the Athens 2004 Olympic Games in numerous roles, including Competition Director for Diving, Member of the Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Sports Information Manager for Cycling, Velodrome, Paralympic Village and Paralympic Games, IF Liaison for several sports and Director for all the Technical Officials at the Test Events.

 



As a FINA and LEN A Category International Referee and Judge, she participated in various capacities in 6 Olympic Games (Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020), several World Cups, World and European Championships. She organized successfully the 1st World Diving Congress (Greece 2005) with 250+ participants, 120+ countries and the 1st European Diving Congress (Italy 2012) as Chairman of the Technical Diving Committee in Europe. She directed 2 diving schools of the General Secretariat of Sports educating over 60 coaches. She authored, edited and published the unique manual in Europe “Let’s Diver Together” and co-authored along with 144 contributors by 22 countries the “Handbook on Safety and Lifesaving”, the 2nd largest publication of its kind in the world, edited by Stathis Avramidis. She co-founded the Water Polo Association “HAPPY BABY WATER BALL” (HABA WABA) and inspired its anthem and logo.

 


Georgia is honored by many sports organizations, institutions and universities.  She was awarded the Paragon Award 2005 by the International Swimming Hall of Fame as Best Diving Manager of the Year. In 2017 she was nominated by the Hellenic Olympic Committee for the “Woman of the Year Award”. Her contribution in European and World Aquatics has been appreciated and awarded with Gold and Silver Pins and Diplomas. 

 

In 2016, as sports expert she composed and wrote together with 5 specialists, the “Strategic Plan of the Sports in Greece”. In the 2023 national elections, she was asked by the cabinet of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, to be a Senator candidate with the New Democracy party. Georgia’s life is dedicated to sports and in combating child and women's violence and abuse, strengthening gender equality in all settings.
