A Chance For Children of Aiantas Association
Saint Dimitrios 8/12/2023. I had the
opportunity to be in the Tae-Kwon-Do Association. Aiantas St. Demetrios where
after consulting with the teacher and with great joy I had the unique
opportunity to read the fairy tale ''A Chance For Children'' by Stathis
Avramidis to 14 children aged 7-12.
Initially I had come to terms with the teacher to read the tale in a
7-8-year-old children's section after the training preceding. So after
finishing the training I sat down the kids in a circle and started reading the
fairy tale. Soon, the next section with older children (10-12kg) arrived, who
had not yet begun their training standing up in a corner and secretly. To my
great pleasure and surprise when the teacher came in to start training, the
children asked to sit down to hear that fairy tale. Children were surprised and
only some innocent questions from the smallest of the company were heard such
as ''why did the fear scared Dear?'' And some laughs when the tale was
mentioned in Filio as '’hoarse trumpet'. However, as I read them I could see
many different expressions on their faces with that of enthusiasm being the
most dominant. After the fairy tale is over, I invited the kids to play the
games on the back of the book. There was a mess there but in the end I asked them
the questions and asked them to write the answers on a paper. I was happy to
realize that most children were attending throughout the fairy tale and had the
most answers correct. In the end I bid farewell to the children with a brochure
signed, as a sweet memory.
What will be more than the experience of me is the will of older
children to sit down to hear the fairy tale, it is something I consider to be
an achievement for both me and themselves, although they seemed to be ashamed
to ask the teacher (because they are ''big''), they overcame it and I think
they were justified.
In conclusion, although at first it seemed foreign and unprecedented all
this experience with the fairy tale as I had never done it before, I have to
admit that it gave me the opportunity to review some things, for good, about
teaching. I conclude that, although this is the whole process mainly for
children, I can say that the one who took the greatest lesson was me.
