The GLSA Greek Team at the Erasmus+ Lifesaving Awareness
Volos, Greece 5-15.05.2025. The Lifesaving Team of the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association (GLSA) participated at the co-funded by the European Union Erasmus+ training youth exchange project “Safe, Pick, Run” for raising awareness to lifesaving sport.
Totally 42 youth from 6 countries (Greece, Serbia, Poland, Turkey, Lithuania, and Bulgaria) participated. The Greek Team was composed by the GLSA members and students of the School of Sport Science and Physical Education of Athens University, Zoe Raftopoulou, Marialena Karakousi, Olympia Iordanopoulou, Petros Mavrogiannakis, Panagiotis Dokoutsidis, Efraim Chalkias (assistant trainer) and Dr Stathis Avramidis (trainer).
The lifesaving related syllabus included the events of beach sprint, beach flags, rope throw (individual and relay), wet and dry simulated emergency rescue competitions, swim and tow relays with and without rescue tube, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, epilepsy, action for chocking, recovery position, heart attack, fainting, bleeding, water and land-based drowning rescues.
