ILKO RAEV INDUCTED AS A GLSA HONORARY MEMBER
Greece 15.06.2025. The Greek Lifesaving Sports Association proudly announces the induction of Ilko Raev (Bulgaria) as an Honorary Member. The presentation was made during the opening ceremony of the 21st International Festival of Red Cross and Health Films 2025.
Ilko Raev said about his induction: "My work for the past many years is to serve the society through the operation of the film festival. This event has become a welcome place for filmmamkers, humanitarian organisations and everyone who seeks to make a difference in this challenging world. I thank the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association for this honor, that I receive with joy not for my personal esteem but as evidence of camaraderie and friendship."

Ilko Raev is a Member of the National Council of the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC) and the Chairman of the BRC Varna District. In 2014, he restored the International Festival of Red Cross and Health Films in Varna, Bulgaria under the slogan “Through Humanity to Peace and Friendship”. The festival is supported by the Bulgarian and the International Red Cross, the World Health Organisation and UNESCO. Raev as the Festival's director, is known for notable qualities such as strong leadership in cultural and humanitarian events, skills in multi-stakeholder coordination across government, academic, and international bodies and has become a consistent advocate for values-driven filmmaking and volunteerism. For his contributions to society, he has received numerous honors from various organizations.
The GLSA President, Dr. Stathis Avramidis said: “In 1995, South Africa won the world rugby cup. Thanks to that, Nelson Mandela made something impossible. He created the rainbow nation, uniting white and black people. When they ask him what is the meaning of this triumph, he said: "The most important in every act of kindness is not the act itself, but the hope that because it happened once, it can happen again!" I am proud to present the GLSA Honorary Membership status to a great and humble men, that acts as pillar of inspiration and innovation for cinematography, humanism, health and safety. Nelson Mandela would be proud for Ilko Raev. "

The Greek Lifesaving Sports Association is a non-profit organization and the only licensed organization by the Ministry of Sports - General Secretariat of Sports that operates lifesaving sport recreationally in Greece. It has Supporters, Honorary, Individual and Clubs Members in 31 countries.
