“Who is Who” of the Greek GLSA partner-organization

 

Nis, Serbia 22.08.2025. The Greek Lifesaving Sports Association represented Greece at the Erasmus+ project "Reverse the Odds" of the European Union for preventing gambling among the youth.

 

Introduction

The project runs between 2024-2026, among 4 organizations; Germany (Verbund sozial-kultureller Migrantenvereine Dortmund e.V.) as a coordinator and Lithuania (PSA), Serbia (City of Nis Debate Club), and Greece (Greek Lifesaving Sports Association) as partners. Each organizations contributes expertise in youth work, training, or addiction prevention. This project addresses the increasingly problem of youth engagement in online gambling and its associated risks. The significant rise in access to online casinos, sports betting, and other gambling activities in recent years, especially via mobile apps, poses a serious threat to the emotional, financial, and social well-being of young people.

 

Who is who

The Greeks that participate in the various stages of this project, are:

 

Dr Stathis Avramidis: President of the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association. Team Manager. Author of 30 books. Teacher of Applied Lifeguarding and Lifesaving Sport at the School of Sports Science and Physical Education of Athens University. Secretary General of the Mediterranean Lifesaving Confederation. Award recipient by the International Swimming Hall of Fame, the International Life Saving Federation and other organizations for contributions to water safety as author, academic, filmmaker and events organizer.

Stathis Avramidis presents lively his motto: "Follow your heart. Not your card." 
The motto was among the top three that were chosen for the campaing.

Impressions

All members of the Greek team, expressed profound satisfaction about the level of the project, in terms of quality and quantity. They demonstrated enthusiasm and contributed actively in all stages of the learning process and the outcomes. They found that the hospitality and organizational elements of the local Serbian organization were outstanding. Likewise, the camaraderie of the Lithuanian and the German team in helping everyone other and providing useful input was remarkable, memorable and essential. These 4 nations, worked together applied the motto of the 4 musketeers: “One for All. All for One.” It is hoped that their dedication would act as a building block towards the prevention of gambling among youth.

 

Team spirit and good mood was evident during all stages of these 3-day training.
