Erasmus+ Program
“Reverse the Odds”:
Gambling Prevention Awareness
at Marathon Primary School
Marathon, Greece 10.06.2026. Educational and awareness-raising initiative on gambling prevention for 6th-grade students at Marathon Primary School, under the framework of the Erasmus+ project "Reverse the Odds."
As part of the smooth transition of students from Primary to Junior High School, an educational and awareness-raising session was successfully held for the 6th-grade students of Marathon Primary School. The initiative aimed to disseminate the educational material developed under the European Erasmus+ program “Reverse the Odds” (Project No. 2024-3-DE04-KA210-YOU-000280177). The workshop was implemented with the valuable support of the classroom teacher, Anastasia Vasilopoulou, while the presentation on behalf of the program was delivered by Stavros Tsonias.
During the session, students engaged with the topic through an experiential learning approach. By participating in interactive games, such as rolling dice and opening loot boxes with potential rewards, the children experienced a wide range of emotions and gained a practical understanding of the psychology behind gambling.
Specifically, the workshop focused on three key areas: (1) The dangers of gambling: How engagement with games of chance begins and how this vicious cycle can lead to psychosomatic and social consequences in the lives of adolescents. (2) The value of a healthy lifestyle: Great emphasis was placed on how physical activity, exercise, and sports promote well-being, joy, and a sense of personal improvement, acting as a powerful shield against all forms of addiction. (3) Preparation for Junior High School: The speakers discussed coping strategies, preventive measures, and ways to enhance children's critical thinking skills, ensuring they enter their new school environment well-informed and protected.
The initiative concluded with an open discussion.
Students asked questions and shared their thoughts regarding the digital world
and gambling, recognizing the vital importance of making healthy choices in
their lives.
