GLSA Humanitarian Award to Swimming Club Sveti Nikola

Glyfada, Greece 12.06.2026. The Greek Lifesaving Sports Association presented the Humanitarian Award to the Swimming Club Sveti Nikola for voluntary activity that advanced drowning prevention through water safety and swimming.

The Swimming Club "Sveti Nikola" Niš (SCSN) was founded in December 1991 in Niš, Serbia, becoming the first aquatic sports club established in the city. It quickly developed into one of the leading swimming centers in Serbia and the former Yugoslavia. Over the past 35 years, more than 30,000 swimmers have been registered through the club’s programs. Today, SCSN has over 100 competitive swimmers and around 200 active members participating in swimming lessons and recreational swimming. Throughout its history, SCSN has produced national champions and record holders. Our swimmers have represented Serbia at the Balkan Championships, European Championships, and the Youth Olympic Games. In 2011 when SCSN became the Serbian Team Champion. In recent years, the club won national age-group team titles and regularly producing members of the Serbian national team. In 2025, Vera Conić was recognized as Serbia’s Best Junior Swimmer, while Marko Božinović was named Serbia’s Best Coach and appointed coach of the Serbian National Age-Group Team. The club proudly organizes two swimming competitions. The Trophy of Car Konstantin, held annually on the last weekend of May, gathers swimmers from Serbia and neighboring countries. In 2026, we successfully organized the first Masters Trophy of Car Konstantin. Our flagship event is the Sveti Nikola International Swimming Meet, held every year in the second half of December. With a long tradition and participants from many countries around the world, it has become one of the most respected competitions in Serbia and the region and is included in the European Aquatics calendar. SCSN remains committed to developing future champions and swimming excellence.


Upon reception, the SCSN President Predrag Jovanović, said: “We express our sincere gratitude for the invitation to participate in the international program Lifesaving Heroes Training Camp, as well as for the trust shown in our club. This is an extremely high-quality initiative that promotes water safety, first aid, working with youth and international cooperation, which largely coincides with the values ​​and goals of our club. We are especially pleased that our coaches have gained new knowledge, which they will pass on to younger generations of swimmers, as well as to contribute to raising awareness of the importance of water safety in our community. We also thank you for the great honor our club received. This recognition is an additional incentive to continue our dedicated work on promoting swimming, water safety and sports values ​​among the youth. Thanks for the invitation, the trust shown and the recognition granted, and we look forward to future cooperation on projects that contribute to the development of sports, education and international exchange of experiences.”
