Earns Triple Recognition from
Melbourne, Australia 16 July 2026. Greek filmmaker Dr Stathis Avramidis has earned three awards at the Whispers of the Universe International Film Festival. His acclaimed short film “Eagle's Rebirth” was honored with the Astral Voyage – Best Inspirational Film Award, the Best Experimental Film Award, and the Best Director Experimental Film Award, recognizing both the film's inspirational message and its distinctive artistic direction and emerging as one of the festival season’s most highly awarded productions.
In announcing the award, the Festival's Organizer and Director, Emily Harris, commented: "Stathis, we sincerely congratulate you on this significant achievement! Created over more than a decade, Eagle's Rebirth tells the inspiring true story of Pantelis Avramidis, who endured years of chemotherapy before discovering competitive lifesaving sport late in life. Despite beginning his athletic journey at an age when most people retire and despite significant other challenges, he ultimately won gold medals at the World and European Masters Lifesaving Championships, demonstrating that the greatest victories are often achieved not in stadiums alone, but in overcoming life's greatest adversities.
Receiving the awards, director Dr Stathis Avramidis said: "Receiving three awards from the same festival is a deeply humbling honor. I am grateful that the jury recognized the story and the artistic vision through which it was brought to the screen. Eagle's Rebirth reminds us that age, illness and adversity need not define our future. My father taught me that true victory is measured not by medals, but by the courage to begin again. The film was produced by the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association. It is endorsed by the International Swimming Hall of Fame, the European, Mediterranean and International Life Saving Federations. Narration was provided by Joe Geoffrey. The film is dedicated to the loving memory of Dr Louis Bonann, father of Greg Bonann, the legendary creator of the television series Baywatch.
