Safe Greece 2020

"Safe Greece 2020" agreement between
the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association
and the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation

Greece-Monaco April 2020. The Greek Lifesaving Sports Association and the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation agreed to implement the project "Safe Greece 2020" to educate thousands of children and adults in water safety.

The project is called "Safe Greece". The program will teach water safety, personal survival, water rescues nationwide mainly in children but also in adults (university students, lifeguards, camp councilors). The overall goal is to preserve public health and aquatic accident prevention. The secondary goal will be to evolve lifesaving sport nationally and use it as means to motivate water safety education.

Launched on 14th December 2012, the primary objective of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation (PCMF) is to save lives by putting an end to drowning. Its missions are to raise public awareness about the dangers of water, teach children preventive measures, and teach them to swim.

The Greek Lifesaving Sports Association (GLSA) is a non-profit organization that was founded on 4th February 2020 to bridge public health with sports for injury prevention. Its establishment was motivated by the fact that Greece needs an organization that would work independently and effectively in the water safety field for its whole resident.

The staff of the two organizations have already worked successfully the past 5 years, associated with a lot of diverse entities in prevention fields and have now, for the first time, renewed formally their collaboration through an exclusive agreement.

GLSA President Dr. Stathis Avramidis, said: "We are extremely pleased to continue our long collaboration with the PCMF. Through the years we have developed an excellent communication that helped each other to achieve our common goals." GLSA Vice President Eleftheria Avramidou, added: "The PCMF is a pillar of water safety in Greece. We are proud to continue the work of saving lives with such dedicated, supportive and reliable organization. Together we are stronger!"
