Dr ANA CATARINA QUEIROGA INDUCTED
AS A GLSA HONORARY MEMBER
Greece 16.03.2021. The Greek Lifesaving Sports Association proudly announces the induction of Dr. Ana Catarina Queiroga from Portugal as a Honorary Member.
Dr Ana Catarina Queiroga, said
about her induction: "I am honoured and humbled to be included in
such a plural and competent group of Honorary Members of the Greek Lifesaving
Sports Association. It is important that drowning prevention efforts encompass a broad spectrum
of actions and activities, tackling any of the several triggers of the drowning
timeline. The combination of
diverse skills in one single group as previous Honorary Members, proves the
wide and relevant scope of action of GLSA to reduce drowning through sport,
rescue and community based activities, all of which grounded in solid
scientific evidence. Lifesaving sports aim at encouraging people to compete on the
ability to save the life of others is worth recognition and GLSA is promoting
this truly unique form of competition as a tool and additional layer for
drowning prevention. I am grateful to have the opportunity to contribute to
GLSA´s efforts to bring drowning science to the community through
sports, gaming, and other educational activities."
Catarina is a Microbiologist with a PhD in
Biology and has since 2006 been engaged in several lifesaving projects as well
as teaching. She has a special interest in drowning research and prevention
issues and in promoting water safety in developing countries as well as within
non-native and high-risk communities in developed countries. She has
concentrated her scientific collaboration in several drowning prevention
research projects, actively collaborating with University of Porto (Portugal),
University of Vigo (Spain), Federation University (Australia), University of
Auckland (New Zealand) and Royal Life Saving Society – Australia, where she
worked for almost a year. She is member of the Drowning Prevention
Commission and Medical Committee of The International Life Saving Federation
(ILS), member of the Drowning Prevention Commission of ILSE and co-founder of
IDRA, the International Drowning Researchers’ Alliance. She has recently
coordinated and co-authored the IDRA-ILS-IMRF Joint Position Statement on the
resuscitation of the drowned person during COVID19 Era. She has authored and
co-authored several scientific papers, reports, book chapters and lectures
at International Conferences. Her publication record has over 280
citations, an h-index of 11, and more than half of all publications were
published in Q1 journals and are in the topic of this application. In her
professional activities has co-authored scientific papers with 121
collaborators and has been invited to provide 19 oral presentations of the 55
presented. She has supervised 1 MSc student and is currently supervising 3 PhD
students and 1 medical doctor (Public Health specialty).

The Greek Lifesaving
