GLSA teaches “Safe Greece” to ANOG
supported by the PCFM
Glyfada, Greece 09.07.2021. The Greek Lifesaving Sports Association (GLSA) supported by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation (PCMF), taught water safety at the summer camp of Glyfada Athletic Nautical Club (ANOG).
The teaching aims to introduce to 250 summer campchildren basic water safety, land-based and water rescues techniques. The teaching lasts 4 hours. The children were taught the International Water Safety Program “Charlie the savior” and the various techniques that are implemented by GLSA with the support of the PCMF.
Dr. Stathis Avramidis (GLSA President and 2-times Hall of Fame honoree), commented: “Thanks to the PCMF we save more lives. The vision of the Princess, the leadership of the Foundation and their impact to Greece and the world is outstanding!”
Tasos Panastasiou (ANOG Sports Centre Director, Olympian and Greek water polo legend), said: “We are pleased to host this project. We thank the Princess Charlene of Monaco for the support She offers to Greece. We hope to benefit this and the following yearsthrough our collaboration with GLSA.”
Ioanna Saha (ANOG swimming national champion), said: “Our children enjoyed the teaching that is so important for their safety. We thank GLSA and the PCMF for giving us the opportunity to benefit from this project.”
Panayota Themistokleous (Athens University student), said: “Through our academic preparation at Athens University, thanks to GLSA and its partnershipwith the PCFM, we teach children water safety. It was very nice experience. I feel lucky to participate. The love we received from the children, we send it to the HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco!”
Efraim Chalkias (GLSA Head of Volunteers), added: “The PCMF helps our country to become safer by collaborating with GLSA. About 5,000 children and adults are taught water safety. We thank HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco and hope to continue this project for years.”
Kyriakos Giannopoulos, ANOG Vice President and the newly elected President of the Hellenic Swimming Federation, expressed his satisfaction about the content and the outcome of the project.
The teaching was led by Dr. Avramidis who was supported by Efraim Chalkias (GLSA Head of Volunteers), and Athens University students (Panagiota Perikleous, Lydia Kenourgiou, Chryssa Nikolaidou, Alexandros Kotsenos). The teaching was video recorded by the experienced reporter Sylvain Peroumal and it will be screened in various festive occasions of the PCMF. The project will continuein ANOG by other Athens University students – GLSA Members during the summer.
