Tribute about GLSA's "Safe Greece" by the

Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation

Monaco 19/5/2022. The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation released a beautiful tribute video to honor the project "Safe Greece" that is implemented by the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association.

In the video we see children of the ANOG swimming club in the town of Glyfada taking lessons on water safety and lifesaving in practical and theoretical form. At the theory they are taught the "International Water Safety Program Charlie the savior".

The ANOG Director, Tasos Papanastasiou, OLY expressed that his club feels honored for the participation in the project.

Ioanna Sacha, ANOG National Champion Swimmer said that this project is very important for the children because they learn how to be safe in the water.

The GLSA President Dr. Stathis Avramidis, expressed his deep apprecation to the PCMF that has converted the whole world within a limited time into a safer place around the water.

Her Sirene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco appears at the final scene saying that "together we will safe lives, one person, one family, one community at the time!"

The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation wrote: "Since 2014, the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation has been supporting the “Safe Greece” project in Greece, initiated by the Greek Government due to high rates of drowning in the country.

The lessons, prepared and taught by Dr Stathis Avramidis (International Swimming Hall of Fame honoree, lifesaving teacher at Athens University and an officer of the National Public Health Organisation), give children and adults the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the risks and to develop good safety habits in a water environment.

In 2020, the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association (GLSA) took over the project. The GLSA, presided over by Dr Avramidis, is a new entity whose purpose is to promote water safety and lifesaving sport throughout the country. In its first 2 years of existence, the association obtained outstanding results – testimony to the passion and determination of its managers, highlighting the importance of water sports and offering hope for the future of lifesaving in the country."

The video was recorded and edited by Sylvain Perumal, the personal colleague of Prince Albert of Monaco and HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco during the 2021 summer. During the teaching, the following students of the School of Sports Science and Physical Education of Athens University and GLSA Members assisted the teaching: Efraim Chalkias, Alexandros Kotsenos, Panagiota Themistokleous, Lydia Kainourgiou, Chryssanthi Nikolaidou.
