Tokyo Film Awards Honored Eagle’s Rebirth
Japan 22.07.2026. The award-winning documentary Eagle's Rebirth, directed by Greek filmmaker Dr. Stathis Avramidis, has received another international distinction, winning the Bronze Award for Best Animation at the Tokyo Film Awards in Japan, among 232 international submissions.
Organised by professionals from the film and television industry, the Tokyo Film Awards focus primarily on short films and aim to promote emerging talent and original artistic vision. The festival celebrates Japan's rich cinematic heritage—one of the oldest and largest film industries in the world, with a history spanning more than 125 years—and attracts submissions from filmmakers across the globe.
In its official notification to the director, the festival stated that Eagle's Rebirth "made a strong impression on our jury through its creativity, quality, and distinctive artistic vision." Among more than 232 international submissions, the film was selected as a Bronze Award winner in the Best Animation category, recognising its unique visual style and powerful human message.
The 15-minute documentary, elegantly narrated by Joe Geoffrey, tells the inspiring true story of Pantelis Avramidis, who, after overcoming cancer and extraordinary personal adversity, transformed his life in his eighties by becoming a European and World Masters Lifesaving Champion. Through painterly animation and symbolic storytelling, the film explores resilience, hope and the belief that it is never too late to begin again.
With awards now spanning Europe, Australia and Asia, Eagle's Rebirth continues its international festival journey, carrying a universal message of perseverance while also promoting the humanitarian values of lifesaving and the vision of recognising lifesaving as a future Olympic sport.
